Superhot VR studio tested ‘larger’ levels for Oculus Quest port

Superhot VR on Quest is one of if not the best ports for Oculus’ new standalone headset. Some minor visual sacrifices aside, it’s exactly the equivalent as the original game. In truth, Quest’s tether-free tracking makes it upper than it is on PC. On the other hand the game’s developer didn’t at all times plan a right away port for Quest. At one cut-off date, it was once working on new levels.

The developer printed as so much in a recent blog post detailing the Quest style’s construction. After trying out the original Oculus Quest prototype over a year previously now, the studio started to experiment with the freedom to move in VR. “Quest unlocked a complete swath of new potential choices and design alternatives for us. Upper playspaces were particularly exciting to find,” the staff wrote. “Working spherical in huge 20x20ft virtual environments looked as if it would open up such a large amount of new choices.”

As such, the developer began to artwork on “larger, further walkable levels” for an eventual Quest free up. It was once even planning to sing their own praises the ones new levels at Quest’s divulge at Oculus Connect 5 in 2018.

In the end, despite the fact that, the staff decided against using the ones new levels. “Turned into out – walking spherical was once approach a lot much less exciting than just naturally using larger playspaces to be a lot more of a badass throughout the tight, action-packed combat scenes of the original game,” the studio outlined.

Two weeks forward of OC5, then, the staff set about reworking the original game’s levels for Quest.

While it’s definitely disappointing to hear that new Superhot VR levels were ditched, it’s good. Quest does allow for additonal movement in VR, alternatively that doesn’t suggest avid players themselves have extra space to move in. I surely wouldn’t had been ready to play huge Superhot levels in my tiny condo.

The staff did make a few changes to this style, despite the fact that. You no longer need to grab pyramids between sequences, for instance, and there’s a customer mode. It’s moreover planning as a way to upload one of the vital an important optimizations it’s made into the PSVR and PC diversifications of the game temporarily.

The wait continues for an actual Superhot VR sequel, then.
